In accordance with U.S. Department of Education regulations, all postsecondary institutions receiving federal Title IV funds are required to establish a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy. This policy determines a student’s eligibility to continue receiving federal financial aid and applies to all federal Title IV assistance programs, including:
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
- Federal Work-Study
- Federal TEACH Grant
- Federal Perkins Loan
- Federal Direct Loans
Bethany College’s SAP policy applies equally to all students—full-time and part-time—and is as strict as the academic standards applied to students who do not receive federal financial aid. SAP is evaluated at the end of each payment period.
Graduate Program Requirements
To remain in good academic standing and continue in the graduate program, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
Academic Warning
A student whose GPA falls below 3.00 for a single term will be placed on academic warning.
Academic Probation
A student whose GPA remains below 3.00 for two consecutive terms will be placed on academic probation.
Academic Dismissal
A student whose GPA remains below 3.00 for three consecutive terms will be academically dismissed from the program.
Appeals
Students have the right to appeal SAP-related decisions through the Academic Appeal Process. Details on how to appeal will be provided in the dismissal notification.
