Mission

The Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Interdisciplinary Science is a multidisciplinary major to meet the rapidly changing world in the natural sciences. The Interdisciplinary Science specialization offers a flexible and diverse curriculum to allow learners to explore life sciences, physical sciences, and health-related fields tailored to unique interests and future career objectives. The program will provide learners with the preparation for graduate studies. It can also be for learners who have or are completing an accredited allied health certification program at another institution. The program is designed to prepare allied health professionals for graduate or professional school.

Learning Outcomes

All majors in the interdisciplinary studies program have the following learning outcomes.
1. Students will develop and apply advanced research, analytical, and critical thinking skills to identify, evaluate, and propose solutions to interdisciplinary problems.
2. Students will exhibit proficiency in written and oral communication, effectively articulating interdisciplinary concepts and solutions.
3. Students will build practical skills and experiences, preparing for diverse career pathways that require adaptability and an interdisciplinary approach.
 

Students who complete the interdisciplinary science major will have the following specific
learning outcomes.
4. Students will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the multiple scientific disciplines and develop in-depth expertise in at least one specialized field.
5. Students will design and conduct scientific investigations, applying appropriate methodologies, and analytical techniques to address complex research questions.

 

In the Interdisciplinary Science specialization, students must complete at least 45 hours, including a section of science courses, plus a seminar, comprehensive exams, and a senior project. For science requirements, students choose from a minimum of three disciplines to establish a science core and then plan a specialization.

Science Specialization

Students complete 20 credits in an area of concentration in a science discipline (biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, or psychology). This concentration must include at least three courses at a 300 level or higher that are approved by an advisor and the Interdisciplinary Committee as part of the proposed four-year plan.
