Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and Master of Education Teaching and Learning (M.Ed.)

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Degree is a 39- credit program that provides education courses and teaching internships essential in preparing teacher candidates for teaching in a specific content area for grades PreK-Adult, 5-Adult, or 9-Adult. Candidates may obtain endorsements in the following areas of concentration: Biology, Chemistry, English, Language Arts, Mathematics, Middle School, Physical Education, Social Studies, or Spanish. This program is designed to be a 4 plus 1-year program. Candidates are required to submit a passing content praxis II score(s) for their intended content discipline prior to admission to the program. Upon completion, candidates will take the PRAXIS II-Principles of Learning and Teaching.

Master of Education in Teaching and Learning (M.Ed) is a non-licensure program that will enable candidates develop critical thinking skills while honing their sensitivity toward demographic, economic, cultural and societal differences. The 36--hour credit graduate program is designed to enhance current position and develop skills for future positions. Based in the liberal arts tradition, the program is designed to meet the educational needs of individual students by promoting breadth, depth, and the integration of knowledge. It will assist students in developing intellectual concepts, sophisticated learning skills, moral values, and good citizenship.

The program will enable a career change for fields other than education that will enable the candidate to take on leadership roles in a school or organization.
