Graduate School Admissions
Admission to the Bethany College School of Graduate Studies requires the submission of the following:
- A completed application form
- Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions
- A current résumé
- Payment of the application fee
Once all materials are received, a member of the enrollment team or the Program Director will evaluate the application to determine whether the applicant meets the admission criteria.
Minimum Admission Requirements
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 is required for admission to all graduate programs.
- Some programs require completion of specific prerequisite courses. These requirements are listed in the academic catalog. Proof of completion must be submitted with the application. The Program Director will assess whether previous coursework fulfills prerequisite requirements.
International Students
In addition to the standard application requirements, international applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency. This may be fulfilled in one of the following ways:
- A TOEFL score of 90 or higher (computer-based), preferably taken within the past three years
- An IELTS score of 7.0 or higher
- Completion of the highest-level coursework from an accredited Intensive English Language Center with a passing grade
Upon acceptance, international students will receive a Form I-20, which is required to obtain a student visa from a U.S. embassy or consulate. The I-20 will indicate that the coursework is offered 100% online.
Application Review and Decision Process
Applicants who meet all admission criteria are admitted by the enrollment team. Applicants who do not meet all admission criteria are referred to the Chair of the Graduate Council for further evaluation. The Council may request additional information from the applicant before making a final admission decision.
Notification of Admission
Accepted students will receive an official acceptance letter that includes:
- The program start date
- The tuition due date
Application Fee
An application fee is required for all applicants to the School of Graduate Studies and must be submitted with the admission application. The fee is waived for current Bethany College undergraduate students.
Readmission
Students who do not enroll in courses for two consecutive terms must reapply for admission to resume their studies.
Types of Admission
Applicants admitted to graduate programs at Bethany College may fall into one of the following categories:
Regular Admission
Applicants are granted regular admission when they meet all admission requirements as outlined in the Graduate School Manual for their specific graduate program.
Conditional Admission
Applicants with a marginal undergraduate record who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement may be granted conditional admission.
- Conditionally admitted students may enroll in up to 12 graduate credits over two consecutive terms.
- Upon successful completion of these credits, students will either be moved to regular admission status or dismissed from the program.
Note: Due to federal regulations, international students are not eligible for conditional admission.
Provisional Admission
Applicants may be granted provisional admission if they:
- Have not yet completed an undergraduate degree
- Are missing prerequisite course(s) (when applicable)
- Have not submitted an official transcript at the time of application
Provisionally admitted students may register for courses but may not begin attending classes until all required documentation is received. This status allows students to reserve a seat in their courses while finalizing their application materials.
