RDNG 215: Adolescent and Children’s Literature

*Course already required for elementary education certification. Students must also complete the remaining coursework and other requirements for K-6 certification.

This course focuses on extensive reading of diverse genres of literature written for children and adolescents and use of literature across the K-12 curriculum. Students will use a variety of methods to reflect on and respond to literature, learn about prominent authors and illustrators, and consider the historical aspects of children’s literature in society and cultures. A major focus will be on learning how to encourage children to become motivated and engaged readers. A 15-hour field experience is required.
